Continental Door Company adds flair and functionality to a restaurant in Liberty Lake, WA by introducing Clopay® VertiStack® Clear doors, a modern space-saving solution.
Bangkok Thai Asian Restaurant’s owner was determined to create an ambiance that matched the excellence of its authentic Thai cuisine. Achieving a high-end look would require a sectional door that seamlessly fit into the building’s modern, elegant design without getting in the way of its electrical and mechanical ceiling features.
“Bangkok Thai had a number of challenges that a conventional door on tracks just wasn’t going to solve–like custom lighting and HVAC–which posed headroom limitations” said Norm Morse, General Manager for Continental Door Company.
Luckily, Morse and his team had the perfect solution in their back pocket—Clopay® VertiStack® Clear doors. These doors are engineered to operate in a unique way. Instead of relying on traditional horizontal tracks, the sections stack vertically above the opening, taking up minimal ceiling space. Additionally, the doors boast a contemporary design that would add to the building’s elegant interior and exterior spaces.
“The owner wanted an overhead door that opened to the patio without visible indoor hardware, the VertiStack Clear door was ideal for this,” Morse explained. “The design team also needed the door frames to match the building’s hollow metal frames and the black anodized acid etch was a perfect match.”

Going with the indoor-outdoor flow.
As customers step into the restaurant, they’re welcomed by ivy-draped walls and 40 custom crystal cluster pendant lights resembling twinkling stars. On warm days, the VertiStack Clear doors disappear into the ceiling, drawing customers through to Bangkok Thai’s expansive patio. The flow from the building’s organic modern interior to its outdoor space creates a cohesive and holistic dining experience.
“The lights were suspended 24 inches below the door opening with custom drop cables,” Morse explained. “Additionally, the HVAC system was positioned at 8’6” above the finished floor. Using a traditional horizontal track would have interfered with both the lighting and HVAC system, altering the ambiance of the space—something we couldn’t compromise on.”
A harmonious and comfortable atmosphere.
Liberty Lake endures harsh winters due to the cold air funneled in from the foothills of the Idaho Rockies into the Spokane Valley. With this in mind, Continental Door worked with Clopay’s Architect Design Support (ADS) team to increase the door’s insulative properties.
“Clopay’s ADS team increased VertiStack Clear Door’s thermal performance by incorporating foamed-in-place polyurethane insulated rails and stiles,” Morse said. “The glass panels were configured with insulated, tempered, and Low-E glazing to bolster the door against Washington’s winter weather and establish a comfortable dining experience for patrons no matter what the season.”
The biophilic design of the restaurant creates a harmonious atmosphere, enhanced by VertiStack Clear doors that seamlessly blend comfort and practicality for indoor and outdoor dining.
A memorable dining experience.
Customers at Bangkok Thai restaurant often praise the expansive windows that provide stunning views of the mountains and nearby Liberty Lake. The VertiStack Clear doors add to the overall dining experience, making the restaurant a favorite. By allowing ample daylight and offering breathtaking vistas, these unique doors perfectly complement the space.
