Closed, a full-view door can frame picturesque scenes—a bright patio filled with diners, expansive views of nature, or bustling neon-drenched sidewalks—thoughtfully designed; it does not distract, it harmonizes.

Balanced Design for a first-class dining experience.
Bangkok Thai Restaurant in Washington, designed by architect firm Bernardo Wills and built by Romane Construction, was completed in 2024. The restaurant blends biophilic elements with modern design. Nature is presented as a gentle nod, with ivy-draped partitions, natural wood, and 40 custom pendant lights resembling clusters of stars. Balance is achieved with a contemporary monochromatic color palette, exposed silver air ducts, and matte black metal beams. Two insulated VertiStack Clear Doors (#VS904U) frame views of trees and mountains, immersing customers in the surrounding environment—as if they are dining al fresco, whether in the restaurant or on the patio.
The design of VertiStack Clear Doors from Clopay creates a pleasing visual complexity, harmonizing nature and style with practical performance.
The unique operation of the VertiStack Clear Door offered a solution for limited headroom and addressed several challenges of having an open plenum ceiling. The sections of the door stack above the opening without the need for overhead tracks. This functionality offered space for the lights' custom drop cables, which were suspended 24 inches below the door opening, and for the HVAC system, which was positioned 8’ 6" above the finished floor.
The doors were customized to increase energy efficiency during Washington's harsh winters, using foamed-in-place polyurethane insulation in the rails and stiles and Low-E glazing on the tempered glass panels. For a cohesive look, the doors were finished with a black anodized acid etch to complement the building’s hollow metal frames.

A flawless transition between home and nature.
It was only a matter of time before the aluminum and glass vertically-stacking door garnered interest in the residential community. In response to popular demand, Clopay released the VertiStack® Avante® Door.
Reimagined, this door has all of the same striking qualities as the commercial model. Similarly, the design instantly elevates the look of garages, barns, and sheds, and can be customized to fit openings from 5’ to 18’6” wide and 6’ to 10’ tall. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels create a transitional doorway, allowing the free flow of air, light, and traffic. The design creates a modern feel by blurring the lines between interior and exterior spaces.
In February 2025, the VertiStack Avante Door won the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) “Best in Show” award at the International Builders’ Show®, earning the top ranking out of more than 300 entries.
"Clopay VertiStack represents a truly innovative take on the garage door," industry and media judges stated. "VertiStack Avante... is a reimagined aluminum and glass residential garage door concept...the judges felt that this fresh take on traditional garage doors offers updated architectural appeal, while adding significant overhead storage space."
