SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain

Model: ERF10

During a fire, an elevator shaft acts like a funnel or chimney, drawing smoke and unburned gases vertically into the building. The SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain uses our patented GuideLock™ technology to automatically seal hoistway openings after each cycle—containing smoke and preventing it from spreading throughout the building.

Overview

Award-Winning Smoke and Fire Protection

Engineered to protect what matters most, the SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain was named the 2023 Best Fire Safety System by American Security Today (AST). Tailored to multistory residential and commercial buildings, this system is a valuable asset for the fire protection planning process.

Smoke Containment System Technology

Meeting International Building Code (IBC) standards, the SmokeShield Elevator smoke containment system creates an efficient seal against smoke infiltration, quickly isolating the elevator shaft from the rest of the building. Curtain-mounted pressure-sensitive switches let building occupants and first responders open the curtain when needed, which automatically closes and reseals after a ten-second delay. The curtain automatically reopens and resets itself once alarms are cleared.

Versatile Design and Simple Installation

SmokeShield may be installed directly to masonry or drywall construction. Choose from various headbox and guide colors to complement your overall design and architecture, or make it as inconspicuous as possible by installing the headbox flush into the soffit and with the guides hidden underneath the fascia.

To ensure a perfect fit, our skilled experts will design each smoke curtain to your opening dimensions. We can accommodate elevator shafts up to 12 feet wide and 12 feet high.

Sizes

Our smoke containment system is UL-listed to protect shafts to 12 feet high and 12 feet wide. Its compact size takes up less than 10 inches of headroom, making it the smallest containment solution currently on the market.

Usage

This product is only for use in an emergency. The integrated battery has enough capacity to cycle the system for up to 10 hours during a power disruption.

Operation

Our SmokeShield solution engages when the fire monitoring system sends an alert signal. The curtain-mounted switch reopens the door. A 10-hour battery backup ensures available power during an outage, and the curtain can also lift via an ADA-compliant emergency strap on the bottom.

Interior mount only.
