Construction

How It’s Made: Gallery® Steel

The Gallery® Steel door is built to handle whatever your day throws at it. Each door is crafted with sturdy steel inside and out, sandwiching a layer of high-performance Intellicore® polyurethane or standard polystyrene insulation. This multi-layer construction helps keep your garage warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and quieter all year long.

Clopay’s rust-prevention system protects your investment with hot-dipped galvanizing, a tough metal oxide pretreatment, and a baked-on finish for lasting beauty with minimal upkeep. A replaceable vinyl bottom weather seal in a rust-resistant aluminum retainer helps block out drafts and water, while heavy-duty hardware and 10-ball nylon rollers keep everything running smoothly.

Safety comes standard, thanks to the patented Safe-T-Bracket®, and removable window grilles make cleaning a breeze. Altogether, you get a door that’s durable, low-maintenance, and designed to look great for years.

Gallery Steel 3-Layer Construction

The Gallery ® Steel three-layer construction provides exceptional strength, energy efficiency and dent resistance as well as a beautiful carriage house appearance. The 2" or 1-3/8" thickness of Intellicore® polyurethane or bonded polystyrene insulation and thermal break makes these doors heat and cold resistant while the tongue-and-groove joint helps seal out wind, rain and snow. Available in short and long panels with multiple window options, the three-layer Gallery ® Steel is virtually maintenance-free, so the first fabulous impression becomes a lasting impression.

FAQ
  • What is the difference between the Gallery Steel and the Bridgeport Steel garage doors?

The Gallery Steel door is a traditional raised panel garage door with a grooved panel design. The Bridgeport™ Steel door is a traditional recessed panel door with clean, simple lines. Both are available with or without insulation. Windows and decorative hardware can be added to both doors.

  • Can I paint an Ultra-Grain door?

Your garage door can be painted with high quality 100% acrylic latex (flat, satin or semi-gloss) exterior grade paint.  DO NOT use any type of oil-based paint or alkyd modified paint. These paints will void the warranty of your door. We strongly recommend the use of solar reflective paint when available, especially when using dark colors and when the door is in direct sunlight or high heat environment.

  • What is the difference between a two-layer and three-layer garage door?

A two-layer garage door is constructed of steel with a layer of polystyrene insulation and vinyl backer. A three-layer garage door has a layer of insulation sandwiched between two steel skins for added strength, durability and energy-efficiency.

  • Which architectural styles best complement Gallery Steel doors?

With its carriage house-inspired look, the Gallery® Steel garage door is especially striking on traditional homes like Colonial, Victorian, and Craftsman, where the grooved panels and decorative hardware create enduring appeal. It also brings warmth and detail to farmhouse, cottage, and bungalow exteriors, blending seamlessly with the rustic and classic elements of those home styles. Thanks to its range of colors and finishes, the Gallery® Steel can even complement transitional homes, offering a hint of old-fashioned character without overpowering more modern lines. With so many ways to customize, this door is a versatile choice for homeowners who want to boost curb appeal while staying true to their home’s design.
